| On Saturday while most were enjoying family time, barbecues and picnics, your hometown firefighters here at Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue Department along side of their mutual aid brothers from Campbellsburg Fire Department assisted by the Kentucky Fire Comission Instructional Team) spent time to enhance skill sets and had an opportunity to utilize some of the specialized and technical rescue equipment found on their specialized Heavy Rescue which is equipped with numerous extrication, grain bin, swift water rescue, initial confined space and other specialized equipment that is not found to this degree in our county. The approach specialized in different techniques and tactics for farm machinery emergencies. Our members are always looking for ways to improve and learn new techniques in the fire and rescue field and this certainly was a way for them to enhance their knowledge, skills and abilities to do just that .
This type of training enabled our teams to continue to learn and be exposed to the most current, safe and effective way to safely respond, set-up and mitigate agricultural emergencies, such as tractor rollovers, entanglements, and grain bin entrapments.
Our Crews were been able to focus on the following but not limited to the areas of tactical difficulty that was representative of they could experience in real life emergencies :
Tractor & Implement Extrication:Safe techniques for lifting, stabilizing, and extricating victims trapped under heavy farm equipment using cribbing and heavy rescue jacks.
PTO & Machinery Entanglement:Procedures for safely dismantling or bypassing moving parts (like power take-off shafts and augers) without causing further injury to the victim.
Grain Bin Rescues: Techniques for handling engulfment situations, utilizing specialized rescue tubes and rope systems.
Heavy Stabilization & Winching: Advanced vehicle and machinery stabilization to ensure a safe workspace for both the victim and the first responders.
Command & Accountability Presence, Establishing Safety perimeters, utilization of resources and necessary reporting. |
