Your Hometown Firefighters at Lake Jericho Fire & Rescue Department recently completed its on-going continuing education training for grain bin rescues with support from our Kentucky Fire Commission SFRT. This was one part of a series of Rescue proficiency and enhancement trainings for the department’s approach to it’s several disciplines & specialized rescue program they have the capability to offer.
Fire Chief Mike Schaub said “that thanks to the members doing constant fundraising and our community support the department already has a pretty comprehensive rescue rope cache for specialized rescue calls and have added in the last 2-3 years additional compliments of ropes, hardware, webbing ,rescue tubes, a grain bin engulfment rescue wall, a rescue auger, crates, air monitoring devices, camera systems, and other support ancillary equipment.”
The department’s members take pride of the fact that over 95% of their department have had the basic Grain Bin Rescue course as well as advanced training exposures with out of state technical experts in this area as well as other multiple rescue discipline areas.
Assistant Chief Bryan Patterson noted that with the agricultural related entrapments and accidents on the rise, it's as important as ever that we stay relevant and up to date in following current safety precautions when responding to these types of incidents.
Assistant Chief John Mason said that so many departments across the country continue to face notable hazards associated with working in and around grain structures and we are going to do everything we can to protect not only our department family but those who we are responding to that are in need. |
